Well here we are again

I’ve been quite busy the last few days. But now my to-do-list has shortened a lot, and I have time to continue my projects and post here.

As you might have guessed from the post’s title, I have also played Portal 2 on PS3. Because of the PSN outage, I have not been able to play co-op (I don’t have two controllers so I can’t play locally) or register the game on Steam to play on my PC. After PSN comes back online I will play the co-op with Oliolli.
Anyway, it’s my favourite game now. GLaDOS is as evil and funny as ever, and Wheatley is a very interesting character. And I like the malfunctioning turrets. “It’s my big chance!”

The game project I spoke about in the first post will get a trailer soon. Before that I will show you some concept art, screenshots and explain the game a bit.

Ships
The player's ship in three different flavours.

The game is a vertically scrolling space shooter. The player must fight against cliché-y waves of enemies and bosses to gain score and experience points.

When the ship levels up, the player gets a skill point to spend in one of the three “skills”, speed (top left), armor (right) and guns (lower left). Speed makes the ship harder to hit and increases its speed, armor increases the ship’s health and guns make it shoot more and bigger bullets. On higher levels these attributes unlock special abilities, such as invisibility, summonable allies and planet-destroying missiles. There are over 21000 different attribute combinations at the ship’s maximum level. More info coming soon.

Also, the new forums are now open. Remember to read the rules before posting. They use the same accounts as the main site, so you don’t need to register again. The general discussion about our games will be centered there, and these posts (and their comments!) will be synced there too, so comments on these posts are still very, very welcome.

Do you have any suggestions about what you would like to see in the game? I haven’t yet designed the bosses besides the final one and a few key ones, and most of the swarmer enemies are still question marks. Any ideas? What kind of space monsters / battleships should they be? There are still quite few readers, so chances that your suggestions will be implemented are quite big.

PS. Lätkijä has been downloaded nine times and D&H:TG seven times. Wow, that’s better than expected!

Sorry about that.

Well, if you happened to read that “By: —” -thing under the title, you should know by now that right now you are reading text by someone else than the regular writer. Now that I mentioned that little text, you have most likely read it.

Anyway, the reason my friend, the regular poster gave me permission to write anything here is… Wait for it… He wanted me to start writing a nice story about a not-nice dwarven fortress, from the game Dwarf Fortress. It has been delayed. I was supposed to start yesterday, but something unexpected came in the way. Something small massive. Something small massive known as Portal 2. At first it seemed it would delay the beginning of the story for about a few days. Then only one day. Now it depends largely on the regular author, as he wants to play the co-op portion of it with me. So, once he can beat the singleplayer part, we’ll be starting the co-op part. Depending on how quickly we beat the co-op part, the story may begin in anything from a day to a few days to weeks.

To those who aren’t in the mood to read long(ish) texts, in short: Within any timeperiod from a day to a number of weeks, I will be starting a story about a dwarven fortress. The delay is caused by complex reasons including quantum space-holes.

Also note that the story may be over quickly. Dwarven fortresses don’t tend to live long.

A note from the so-called “regular author”…
Yeah, say hi to Oliolli. For some reason I gave him the rights to post here. Not sure why, though. Maybe because this place needs more dwarves.

Addin’ some content

Today I added some stuff in the Downloads section. To be more specific, two free (as if someone would pay for them) games. The other one is something that could be described as “half-insane reflex test with some very disturbing smiles and is based on true events” and the other is a simple ice hockey game for two players. They are in Finnish (sorry for that!) and the only English text in either of them is “copyright”. They are called Don & Hyrrä: The Game and Lätkijä.

As mentioned above, both of them can be found in the Downloads page as two small, cute and almost gift-wrapped .zips.

They have to go deeper.

Enjoy.

There are still more old games to come, but not yet. I have to find their source codes and fix some… things.

A vile force of darkness has arrived!

…not actually, just a random Dwarf Fortress quote. The site is now open to the public. Or not actually, since there’s nothing in here, and nobody will probably find this site without a lot of advertising. My ad budget is exactly 0€, so that won’t be a very effective way to get visitors.

Anyway, I will tweak the look of the site and put some of the poorly made game projects of mine in here in the coming days, and let some of my friends post some of their thoughts here too. I will also unveil a huge game project currently in development, and it will be released in a year or so. I can’t make any promises yet. Let’s just say it will be released before HL2: Episode Three.

Doesn't look like much, does it?
Doesn't look like much, does it?

It is a vertically scrolling shoot ‘em up inspired by Remar Games’ magnificent Hero and Tyrian, a classic shooter from 1995 (you should give both of them a try). It will include a story mode, waves of enemies, epic boss battles against giant space cruisers and some kind of a level up system that lets you customize the pixelated ship. More on that later.

Comments are more than welcome. And please register to show your support, it’s quick, simple and easy. A RSS feed is also available. You can find it in the sidebar.
